One of our new short courses for 2017, The Great Outdoors: Bush and Beach Kinder will feature guest speaker Ann Slater.
For the past 37 years, Ann has worked as an Early Childhood Teacher within both the Early Childhood and Early Childhood Intervention fields, including community preschools, hospital settings, in the role of PSFO and lecturing at University. She currently lives and works on Boon Wurrung Country as an EC teacher, and in this role she develops and teaches play based programs within the preschool centre, the local bush environments and beach sites. Each week the preschool group Ann teaches meets at ‘bush camp’ for a session, where they explore this environment and walk to the beach. With permission and guidance from the Boon Wurrung Elders the preschool intentionally embeds First People perspectives within the service and programs.
In this short course, Ann will share her experiences and reflections on being an EC teacher within outdoor learning environments, and will actively include the voices of the children and their families throughout this presentation.
