We are part of a community precinct hub with multiple services including:

• Carlton Primary School
• Maternal Health Nurses
• Vaccination services
• Various Playgroups
• Our Place

At least monthly visits of community services such as Centrelink, Housing office, Legal Aide, Drummond Street Services, Employment and Education support, English classes, Kinder and school enrolment support, Cohealth speech pathology for 0-5-year-olds.

There are four rooms at CLP:

• Two rooms for 0-3-year-olds, up to 16 children each;
• Two rooms for 3-5-year-olds, running our funded kindergarten programs, up to 33 children each.

• 1:4 for 0-3-year-olds
• 1:11 for 3-5-year-olds

We have an enrolment officer that will support your family from your initial tour through your whole time with us. They will focus on any initial needs you or your child may have in accessing the service.

We have a chef that is onsite daily providing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. They cater their menu seasonally, considering cultural connections, dietary requirements and nutritional supports.

We have a diverse team with currently 19 different languages spoken, supporting the inclusion of the children and their families:

At CLP we focus on building strong trusting relationships with families and primarily communicate verbally on drop off and pick up. Our rostering system and staffing ensure that there is always someone to talk to about your child. We also use email and school stream to communicate information about service events, notices and important information. Each child will have an individual portfolio where their learning, growth and development is documented by your child’s educators, ready to share with you.

Our educational programs are designed by qualified educators and teachers and informed by your child’s interests, strengths and goals.

Our multi-age setting gives opportunities for children to learn from their peers and engage in a broad range of experiences and environments. Having children of many ages gives opportunities for younger children to observe and learn from older children as they move through the environments with more confidence. Older children benefit as they engage with children that might need more care or understanding from them. Every room is open to all children, and this flow means that children have a wider range of choices, for a wider range of ages and stages available to them.

At CLP children regularly visit the primary school including the playground and practice bush kinder site. Children also visit the library and worm farm. In 4-year-old kinder, children are offered the opportunity to attend bush kinder at Merri Creek as part of our Early Language and Literacy program. The 4-year-old kinder group also visit local primary schools as part of transition to school.

Other excursions are based on children’s interests and the educational program, for example the Banksia room are planning to walk to the local post box to mail a letter after the group has developed an interest in writing.

Each child is offered the opportunity to spend time at the service during the orientation period with a parent/grown up that cares for them. This allows time for your child to get to know the service and educators and for our team to learn about you and your child. You will work with a dedicated educator to plan for your child’s transition into the service.
