The new children’s rooms at Broadmeadows Valley are due to open next year.
For the past six months, the children at Gowrie Broadmeadows Valley have been involved in the expansion of their centre. During this time, their learning and conversations have been documented as they observed the changes happening around them.
The first few weeks focused on preparing the land for expansion, including the removal of trees and excavation work for pipework and cables. The children witnessed various machinery in action, such as dump trucks, excavators, and bulldozers. Repurposing the trees and rocks was a key part of the project, with the trees now used as logs in the program and the rocks incorporated into outdoor spaces.
Although the site is currently a construction zone, it will soon transform into classrooms and outdoor learning areas.
Educational Leader Leslie is excited to have those extra spaces for the community. “That’s something that will definitely help the community come together as well as giving more opportunities to families that might have in the past wanted to come but were unable due to limited spaces,” said Leslie.
Claudia expressed similar enthusiasm, saying, “It’s exciting that we’re getting new classrooms because it just means that we get to support a lot more of our vulnerable community in getting into kindergarten and really teaching the community about the importance of coming in.”
