We welcomed Minister for Early Childhood Education, Senator Jess Walsh, to our Broadmeadows Valley service on Wednesday 20 August.

Joining Senator Walsh was local Member for Calwell, Basem Abdo MP, as well as Early Childhood Australia’s General Manager of Inclusion and Early Intervention, Janet Williams-Smith.

Their visit came as part of Early Learning Matters Week (18-24 August), which is a national initiative that shines a spotlight on the early years. It acknowledges the expertise of educators, the importance of quality early learning, and the impact of play in shaping children’s futures.

Gowrie CEO Karen Weston, Early Learning Manager Michelle Gujer, and several members of staff joined Senator Walsh, Mr Abdo and Ms Williams-Smith to discuss the importance of quality early learning, child safety, and supporting children and families from disadvantaged communities. Michelle spoke passionately about the extensive support networks in the community as well as our staff who work closely with disadvantaged families to provide high quality support allowing their children to attend childcare.

Following from the discussions, Senator Walsh and Mr Abdo were given a tour of the service, exploring the new children’s rooms and outdoor play areas, as well as interacting with the children.
