Gowrie is launching a new skill set course designed for early childhood educators who hold older Certificate III qualifications but do not meet the updated entry requirements to progress into a Diploma.

The CHCSS00147 Entry to Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised program designed to support your progression into the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. As one of the few ECEC providers offering this specific pathway, Gowrie aims to support experienced educators on their leadership journey and ensure more educators become Diploma qualified.

Gowrie’s Executive Manager Adult Learning, Glyn Williams, says that this pathway is needed to boost the number of educators studying for a Diploma and support their move into leadership roles. “We’re excited to be offering the Skill Set as a really practical way to support many educators to build on their existing experience and bridge to a Diploma and future leadership roles,” says Glyn. “We decided to develop this as a blended program to ensure educators could complete most of the learning online at their own pace and around their other commitments. But we also wanted to demonstrate that online learning can include high quality content and is not seen as a short cut, so units are full of case studies, with interviews filmed at Gowrie, and educators are required to reflect and contextualise the learning as they progress through the units.”

What are the benefits of the CHCSS00147 course?

This streamlined pathway is designed to respect your time and existing expertise:

  • You will complete three units:
    • CHCECE037 Support children to connect with the natural environment
    • CHCECE038 Observe children to inform practice
    • CHCECE054 Encourage understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures
  • As a blended course, much of the learning is self-paced and online, completed in your own time, around your other commitments.
  • The units are developed by Gowrie and full of reflections, films and case studies from the team at Gowrie.
  • Access monthly trainer-led sessions to ask questions and collaborate with fellow students.
  • There is no need to redo your entire Certificate III.
  • It is a cost-effective alternative to full retraining.
