Gowrie at The Harbour

A spectacular rooftop garden in the heart of Docklands.

Our purpose-built centre, nestled between the Birrarung (Yarra River) and Victoria Harbour, is one of Melbourne’s most striking urban early learning environments.

  • A diverse community. Children, families and staff at The Harbour bring together many cultures with up to 14 languages spoken. This richness is woven into our weekly menus, where children experience cuisines from around the world.
  • Active participants in city life. Children walk the Birrarung, explore the Docklands Community Garden, visit the library, and take tram trips to Melbourne Museum. Every excursion is planned with purpose so children build identity and belonging within their city community.
  • Programs grounded in world-class research. Partnerships with Melbourne University, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Restacking the Odds, and the City of Melbourne Maternal and Child Health Service ensure our programs reflect the very best evidence in child development with wraparound family support built in.

Gowrie at The Harbour is rated Exceeding under the National Quality Standards.

Out and About

In our Out and About program children regularly explore the local Docklands community with excursions to nearby parks, gardens, and the library. These experiences help children build real-world independence and life skills, from practicing road safety and using public transport to caring for the environment.

Building Essential Life Skills (Executive Function)

We support children to develop essential life skills like memory, focus, and self-control through everyday experiences like playing board games and learning a calming routine. Kind words from our community!

When I needed help, Gowrie @ Harbour Docklands was there for me like family. As a parent, I am truly grateful for everything from Gowrie. But I don’t think the words “thank you” are deep enough, the gratitude I feel is far greater than words. I simply want to say, “My world is brighter because of you.”

Parent

My son attended Gowrie @ the Harbour for 4 years, and what stood out most was the strong sense of community and respect that underpins everything they do while nurturing each child’s unique growth. The educators are amazing—skilled, caring, and thoughtful in how they provide personalised support to help children grow confident and independent. The indoor and outdoor spaces, especially the wonderful yard where children play and garden together, make it even more special. We have only good things to say.

Parent

I couldn’t be happier with the team at The Harbour. My son’s teachers were amazing and always kept me updated on what my son did throughout the day. A special shoutout to Paul and the kitchen staff too! The food is amazing and definitely helped get my son comfortable eating lots of different types of foods.

Parent

Just outstanding. All the staff are incredible, the space is so conducive to learning and play and the programme is so engaging. Not to mention the Gowrie attitude toward education, the respect of the kids as individuals and the opportunity to grow personality and independence. Every childcare centre/kindergarten should be like this.
