Free access to a mentor
Delivered by Gowrie Victoria on behalf of the Department of Education, the Mentoring for Provisionally Registered Teachers Program provides mentors for eligible provisionally registered teachers (PRTs) to support them in moving to full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
Adult Learning Program Manager, Sue Plowright, is excited to welcome new participants. ‘Mentoring enhances reflective practice, builds confidence, and documents professional growth, helping teachers in achieving professional recognition’ says Sue.
The program has received positive feedback from past participants, with Sahel saying: “It (was) an invaluable opportunity to receive guidance, engage in deep reflection, and grow both professionally and personally. The support from my mentor not only strengthened my practice but also empowered me to implement meaningful, inquiry-driven learning experiences.”
Support provided
- The program takes between 3 – 5 months to complete, and includes 3 onsite observation and reflection sessions.
- The level and type of support provided by the mentor will be tailored for each PRT.
- Mentors support the PRTs in identified areas of development, assist in gathering evidence of professional practice and with the completion of the Inquiry Project.
Who can access the program
Program eligibility is prioritised for PRTs that are located regionally (outside of metropolitan Melbourne), have been unable to access a mentor using the department’s Mentor Map and have been a PRT for more than 2 years.
Places are limited.
