Developing Your Career at Gowrie
Learning and development is a core part of Gowrie’s culture. Gowrie is known as the place where generations of teachers and educators have come to learn and we have a broad approach to professional development by providing our people with opportunities for formal learning, collaboration and new experiences.
Investing in our people’s careers includes encouraging study and providing opportunities for career progression. There is no one-size-fits-all approach and there are many different career pathways. Have a look at some of these examples of our people who’ve developed their career at Gowrie.
Leslie, Educational Leader Leslie started as a casual at Gowrie Victoria while studying for his Diploma in Early Childhood. When he later finished his bachelor’s degree, he applied for a permanent role and has worked his way up to Educational Leader at Broadmeadows Valley. Leslie strives to provide a safe and nurturing environment, and loves playing a part in the growth of both children and educators.
Molly, Mentor It is the rich diversity of experiences that keeps Molly passionate about the early childhood sector. Having worked as an ECT at Carlton North, Molly was inspired by the child-led aspect of the program, exploring children’s emerging needs and curiosities daily. Now a Mentor, Molly enjoys supporting provisionally registered teachers to achieve full registration and encouraging them to explore their own curiosities.
Nicky, Kitchen Assistant As Kitchen Assistant at Carlton Learning Precinct, Nicky is an integral part of the team. She loves working with the children and staff to implement exciting new ideas, such as market day, regular baking sessions, the children’s café, and a sustainability program. Nicky believes it is this creativity and freedom to follow children’s interests that play a role in developing a strong community.
Liz, Educational Leader Initially starting out as an Educator at Carlton North, Liz is now an Educational Leader at Docklands Kindergarten and has just resumed her career after returning from maternity leave. Whilst every day is different, you’ll often find Liz doing tours for families at Docklands and being immersed in the children’s program with the Educators and children.
Bassima, Early Childhood Educator Leading Broadmeadows Valley’s Arabic language program, Bassima is a highly respected leader in the local community. The program, delivered twice a week, allows children to explore the Arabic language and culture through songs, puppet shows, stories and books, games, cooking, gardening and flash cards.
Amanda, Early Childhood Teacher Amanda absolutely loves working as an Early Childhood Teacher at Clare Court in Yarraville. Her favourite aspect of working at Clare Court is taking the children to learn at the nearby creek every day as part of the Out and About program. She is also thankful for the creative freedom she has to run education programs without relying on strict frameworks or guides.
Sabiha, Assistant Manager Sabiha has always had a strong sense of community and is dedicated to building connections through her role as Assistant Manager at The Harbour. She believes in working with families and community to support children holistically and help them thrive. Having started at Gowrie Victoria as a casual, Sabiha loves the encouragement and support that all staff receive to pursue their passions..
Ashley, Early Years Leader As an Early Years Leader, Ashley aims to create a positive, nurturing and stimulating environment for children as they learn and grow. Part of his role is building strong relationships with families and staff, and Ashley is passionate about supporting fathers to engage with their children during the early years. Having started as a casual, he is grateful for the many opportunities he has had to advance his skills and pursue new ideas and projects.
Julie, Consultant & Coach Julie brings 37 years of experience in early childhood to her role as Consultant & Coach. Working with early learning services across Victoria, she strives to support teachers, leaders and teams in developing individual goals and growth opportunities. Julie believes strong relationships are crucial to her role and is passionate about empowering people to build their knowledge and implement strategies that will improve their service.
Jacqueline, Early Childhood Teacher & Operations Leader Jacque studied a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood at RMIT, then moved to Kenya where she volunteered in a school for two years. She joined Gowrie Victoria in 2012 on a 3–month contract at The Harbour, and moved to Docklands Kinder in 2020 where she works as an ECT for three days, and Operations Leader for two days.
Nura, Early Childhood Educator Before working at Gowrie, Nura used to work in a kindergarten in England where she was a citizen. She moved into an aged care role, followed by working in family day care. She then moved to Australia and began working as a casual educator at Gowrie, Carlton Learning Precinct. Nura loves the multicultural community and believes it’s important for children to familiarise themselves with different cultures as it prepares them for primary school. Nura speaks many different languages and is always eager to learn a new one.
Chris, Project Manager An experienced Early Childhood Teacher, Chris has a demonstrated history of working in the education management sector. As the Project Manager at Gowrie, Chris works closely with educators, the Leadership team and external stakeholders to bring their ideas to life. This includes focusing on sector requirements, content development, instructional design using adult learning principles, and working closely with internal and external subject matter experts.
