Teachers and Educators, be fully supported when you return to work

On behalf of the Victorian Department of Education, Gowrie is offering coaching to Early Childhood Professionals (teachers and educators) who are joining or returning to the ECEC sector in Victoria.

Gowrie coaches are all experienced coaches and early childhood practitioners offering current and lived experience of the sector. They will tailor the coaching process to meet the needs and circumstances of each individual, guide them to become familiar with relevant EC programs and frameworks and support them to connect with local EC networks.

The process begins by looking at the specific needs of the teacher or educator and what support they are looking for. This will help determine what coaching package would be most suitable (e.g. 10, 15 or 20 hours) and over what period. The coaching process will move through different phases and can include both face to face and online coaching sessions at times agreed by both the coach and the person being coached.

We encourage all current and prospective program participants to register on the Early Childhood Hub, the central platform for professional development courses and supports for early childhood professionals in Victoria. We encourage participants to watch out for the Early Childhood Early Career Supports program due to launch mid-2026 on the hub, designed for early career and returning teachers and educators.

Chrystal and Carmel reflect on their experiences as teachers returning to the workforce with the help of Gowrie’s coaching program.

Leanne and Julie are two of our team of coaches at Gowrie. In these short clips they reflect on some of the key aspects of the coaching process.

The Role of a Coach

Creating Time and Space to Reflect

Gowrie Coaches

Investing in Relationships

  • “Coaching enables us to think more deeply and really focus on something that we probably wouldn’t make the time for otherwise. My role as a coach is to listen and reflect back to teachers. It’s an open, explorative process where we build confidence and build capacity together.”
    Leanne, Gowrie Coach
  • “Coaching might help someone work towards achieving specific goals. Or it might be just an opportunity for someone to share how things are for them, where there’s no judgement, and be supported by a coach to clarify their thoughts.”
    Julie, Gowrie Coach

Our Coaching Culture

One of our key approaches is coaching. Coaching is a part of Gowrie’s culture, an approach that is core to our values and our own operating model. We support our own managers, leaders and teachers through training, information and tools to encourage reflective practice and adopt a coaching approach in a wide variety of interactions. We extend this approach in how we deliver our EC professional learning programs across Victoria. The program builds on what we already do within Gowrie, and what we already know works with our own educators and ECTs. We will put our tried and tested approach into practice to support ECTs joining or returning to the sector across Victoria.
