Gowrie Victoria has been invited by the City of Melbourne to host a fun, dynamic play session at The Harbour as part of Museum Victoria’s 2024 Playbound! community event.
Families with young children in and around Docklands will have the opportunity to come explore the dynamic lines, shapes, sounds, textures and more that is present in the Docklands community, through a series of interactive play sessions called ‘What We See, Feel & Hear in Docklands’.
From the glistening water of the harbour and the abundance of life in Birrarung (Yarra River), to the sounds of construction and transport, this event will be a feast for the senses. Experiences will include large box and loose part construction, water exploration, imaginative play, and sensory play.
Playbound is an initiative by Museums Victoria, in partnership with several other organisations including Gowrie, which runs throughout the winter school holidays and is all about providing fun workshops, performances and events for children and families.
Early Learning Manager at The Harbour, Hannah, says she is excited about welcoming families into the service and connecting with the community in this format. She is also delighted that the service has been invited to be involved. “Ten years ago, children at Gowrie at The Harbour helped to shape the design of the Pauline Gandel Children’s Gallery at Melbourne Museum,” says Hannah. “It is wonderful to reconnect with the museum in this way.”
For families attending, there will be water exploration and clay-playing experiences available, so it is recommended that spare clothes are packed just in case.
